Anne Christiane Frenzel, PhD

Professor at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, Germany (LMU, 2012 – present). She also worked as the Associate Professor of Psychology in Education at the University of Augsburg, Germany (2010 – 2012). She received her PhD at the LMU (2004) where she worked as a Doctoral Research Assistant (2001 – 2004) and as an Assistant Professor (2004 – 2010).
The main focus of her research are teachers' and students' emotional experiences, and their interplay in the classroom. She considers emotions to be relevant because they are an integral component of subjective well-being. Emotions also impact the quality of teaching, learning and achievement and consequently, play a central role in today’s achievement-oriented societies.
Ongoing and completed research endeavors of hers include the Project "FEEL” (German acronym for Forschung zum Emotionalen Erleben im Lehr-Lern-Kontext) funded by the German Research Foundation, a collaborative project together with Prof. Corinna Reck & Prof. Dr. Reinhard Pekrun, with an overall volume of 350,000€. Furthermore, she leads the scientific evaluation of the Initiative Coaching for Pre-service Teachers in collaboration with the LMU Teacher Education Centre funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research, with an overall volume of over 100,000€. She was also a member of the Technical Advisory Group for the TALIS Video Study and Global Video Library.
She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and edited volumes. She has received multiple teaching awards, and according to Greenbaum et al.’s analysis on „Female Participation as Top-Producing Authors, Editors, and Editorial Board Members in Educational Psychology Journals from 2009 to 2016“ published in Educational Psychology in 2018, she ranks #6 word wide within this research community.
Regarding her institutional responsibilities at LMU, she is Academic Director of the M.Sc. Study Program Psychology: Learning Sciences (2012 – present), Executive Board Member of the Munich Center of the Learning Sciences (2016 – present), and Student Dean of the School of Psychology and Education (2017 – present).
Currently, she teaches courses on Educational Psychology, Personality Psychology and Research Methods in the M.Sc. Study Program Psychology: Learning Sciences at LMU (2013 – present) and holds various invited teaching activities and guest lectures at Universities of Augsburg, Bamberg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Kiel, Konstanz, Melbourne, Trier (2004 – present). Previously, she was teaching Bachelor and Master seminars in Personality Psychology, Diagnostics and Research Methods for Bachelor/Master in Psychology as well as School Psychology (2002 – 2008) and Lectures and seminars for Preservice Teachers and Bachelor in Educational Sciences (Introduction to Psychology; Educational and Developmental Psychology; Motivation and Emotion) at the University of Augsburg (2010 – 2012).
