Asmir Gračanin was born in 1979 in Rijeka, where he completed high school and earned his graduate degree in psychology. He obtained his doctorate in psychology in Ljubljana in 2011. From 2014 to 2016, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Tilburg University in the Netherlands, focusing on the research of emotional crying. Currently, he is an associate professor at the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Rijeka. He conducts research in the areas of emotions and personality and teaches various subjects, including Personality Psychology and Evolutionary Psychology. He serves as the head of the Laboratory for Experimental Psychology at the Department of Psychology, and he is the director of the University Center for Mind and Behavior. His specific research areas include human sexuality, the psychology of social status, emotional crying, physiological autonomic reactions during emotion regulation, and personality traits associated with all the mentioned areas. He has published over forty scientific papers and chapters in books. As a recognition of his work, he received the State Science Award of the Republic of Croatia for the year 2017.
