Gian Vittorio Caprara is Emeritus Professor at Sapienza University of Rome where he served as Director of Institute, Chair of Department, Coordinator of Graduate programs, and Dean of Psychology Faculty. He had temporary teaching appointments at the University of Milano Bicocca and at the University of Michigan, UCLA, UCI and Stanford University. He has been a research fellow at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study and at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study.

Among the offices held in scientific societies, he served as the President of the European Association of Personality Psychology (EAPP), member of the Council of the International Society of Research on Aggression (ISRA), member of the Executive committee of the European Association of Psychological Assessment (EAPA), member of the Governing Council of the International Society of Political Psychology (ISPP), and Honorary President and Chair of Scientific Committee of the 14th European Congress of Psychology (ECP) held in Milano in July 2015.

Since 2000, he has been a member of the Academia Europaea. Since 2021, he has been a member of the Academico de Honor, Academia de Psicologia de Espana. In 2022, he received the Harrold Laswell Award for Outstanding Scientific Accomplishment in Political Psychology. In 2023, has was the Doctor and Professor Honoris Causa at Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest. Professor Caprara’s contributions to the advancement of psychological science have been attested by more than 500 scientific publications, including several volumes, and spanning across four major topics: personality, aggression, prosocial behavior and political preferences and participation.
